La sociedad y la vida misma nos exige constantemente tener posturas claras y definidas acerca de tantos asuntos diversos a medida que crecemos y esto es algo que final puede resultar agotador. A la vez parece que nuestras elecciones van poco a poco formando la imagen que los demás y aun nosotros tenemos de nosotros mismos dejando por fuera la siempre latente posibilidad de ser contradictorios, de ser blanco y negro a la vez, femenino y masculino, y así vamos por la vida perfilándonos, definiéndonos y limitándonos.
Uno de los puntos en los que surge más contradicción es sin duda el papel de la democracia en nuestras sociedades y la aparente importancia del voto como poderosa arma para cambiar los destinos de las naciones. Posible es que así sea en un mundo ideal, como también es posible que sea sólo parte de un gran engaño, pero manifestar esto puede terminar alejándote incluso de las personas que amas. Siempre he creído en que todos deberían ejercer su derecho a votar de manera consciente pero a la vez entiendo el desgano de muchos al percibir que aunque voten, nada va a cambiar sustancialmente y comprendo también el fenómeno de la compra de votos en países con altos niveles de miseria e ignorancia, donde las personas regalan su voto a cambio de un mercado o un almuerzo. Esto sumado a la corrupción de los entes gubernamentales que deberían garantizar la transparencia en los procesos electorales pero que en la práctica lo único que garantizan es que el candidato para el que trabajan resulte ganador por medio de todo tipo de actividades fraudulentas.
En realidad, a medida que fui creciendo se fue haciendo más claro para mí que si votar realmente lograra cambiar algo, “ellos”, los dueños del mundo, no nos dejarían hacerlo. Aun así, he votado siempre que me ha parecido relevante hacerlo pero igualmente sintiendo que no hay de donde escoger y que siempre debo terminar eligiendo al menos peor. Nunca ha existido, por lo menos en mi país, un candidato que pueda representarme integralmente. El juego está magistralmente diseñado para que las opciones a escoger se muestren opuestas de dientes para fuera pero detrás del telón hagan parte de lo mismo, el concepto de los semejantes-opuestos.
En los Estados Unidos por ejemplo, es evidente que las elecciones en curso son clave para el futuro de esa nación y por ende del mundo entero y que es necesario ahora más que nunca que la gente salga masivamente a exigir que la persona que ha liderado su país hacia el abismo no continúe haciéndolo, pero cuesta creer que este personaje no esté ahí puesto como parte de algo más grande, algo que quizá buscaba generar justamente esa reacción masiva, ese sentimiento de repulsión de una gran parte del país y producir así una profunda división en el pueblo norteamericano, lo veremos en unos días. Lo positivo es que sin duda esto ha generado un despertar en la población joven que ahora entiende que tienen un papel fundamental en la historia de su pueblo y que deben dejar de ser espectadores para pasar a ser protagonistas en la lucha política y social.
Espero que podamos ver que nuestras decisiones individuales realmente repercutan en la creación de sociedades más justas y equilibradas y podamos volver a confiar en la democracia como la manera de que la voz de los pueblos sea escuchada y respetada, para que aquellos que nuestros votos ponen en el poder respondan a esa voz y lideren al fin a la sociedad hacia el bienestar común.

Society and life itself constantly require us to have clear and defined positions on so many diverse issues as we grow up and this is something that can ultimately be exhausting. At the same time, it seems that our choices are gradually forming the image that others and even we have of ourselves, leaving out the always latent possibility of being contradictory, of being black and white at the same time, feminine and masculine and so on, we go through life outlining, defining and limiting ourselves.
One of the points in which the most contradiction arises is undoubtedly the role of democracy in our societies and the apparent importance of the vote as a powerful weapon to change the destiny of nations. It is possible that this is the case in an ideal world, as it is also possible that it is just part of a great deception, but manifesting this can end up distancing you even from the people you love. I have always believed that everyone should exercise their right to vote consciously but at the same time I understand the reluctance of many to perceive that even if they vote, nothing will change substantially and I also understand the phenomenon of vote buying in countries with high levels of misery and ignorance, where people give away their vote in exchange for a supper or a few bucks. This, added to the corruption of government entities that should guarantee transparency in electoral processes but that in practice the only thing they guarantee is that the candidate they work for is the winner through all kinds of fraudulent activities.
In fact, as I grew older it became clearer to me that if voting could really change something, “them”, the owners of the world, would not let us do it. Even so, I always voted when it seemed quite relevant but feeling there´s not a real choice I always ended up choosing the least worst. There has never been, at least in my country, a candidate who can fully represent me. The game is masterfully designed so the options to choose from are opposite in appearance but behind the curtains they are part of the same team, the concept of oppo-sames.
In the United States, for example, it is clear that the current elections are key to the future of that nation and therefore of the entire world and it seems quite necessary now more than ever for people to come out en masse to demand the person who has led their country towards the abyss does not continue to do so, but it is hard to believe that this character is not there as part of something bigger, something that perhaps sought to generate precisely that massive reaction, that feeling of repulsion from a large part of the country and thus produce a profound division in the American people, we'll see the outcome in a few days. The positive thing is that this has undoubtedly generated an awakening in the younger population, youth now understands they have a fundamental role in society and the history of their country and that they must stop being spectators to become protagonists in the political and social struggle.
I hope we can see that our individual decisions really have an impact on the creation of fairer and more balanced societies and that we can once again trust democracy as a path for the people´s voice to be heard and respected, so that those who we put in the positions of power thru our vote effectively respond to those claims and finally lead society towards the common well-being.
